Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati, Abdul Rasheed Saminu and Isaac Botsio will begin Team Ghana’s athletics campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Monday, July 27, when they compete in the men’s 100m heats.

Azamati, Ghana’s national record holder, is the most experienced of the trio. The 2022 Commonwealth Games finalist has a personal best of 9.90 seconds and heads to Glasgow with a season’s best of 10.00 seconds, set in Sherman Oaks, California, in June.

Saminu enters the competition in outstanding form. The 2025 World Athletics Championships semi-finalist owns a personal best of 9.84 seconds, making him Ghana’s fastest man over 100m this season. He will be looking to carry that momentum into his Commonwealth Games debut.

Botsio completes Ghana’s lineup in the blue riband event. He is the 100m champion at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field championships with a time of 10.07. The sprinter, who is also part of Ghana’s 4x100m relay team, will be aiming to progress beyond the heats in his first Commonwealth Games appearance.

The trio will also be central to Ghana’s medal hopes in the men’s 4x100m relay as the athletics programme runs from July 27 to August 2.
