Uganda super heavyweight boxer Aziz Abdul, who is the grandson of former Uganda President Idi Amin, has cried foul about officiating after losing his bout.
Idi Amin, who is known as the Butcher of Uganda for his eight year bloody military dictatorship of the East African country, passed away in 2003 in exile.
Aziz lost his super heavyweight quarterfinal bout to Englishman Damar Thomas at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
In the third round, Aziz’s head caught Thomas’ chin when the two grappled and after getting warnings in the previous rounds, the Uganda boxer was disqualified.
At the time of his disqualification, Abdul Aziz trailed on all the score cards but after his disqualification ruled him out of winning a medal at the competition, he stated,
“When you watch the previous fights of England their boxers create a lot of fouls. I land a heavy punch on him, they never count. Instead of counting they deduct me. I am black African. He is in homeland.”
“All I can say about this is the decision is not right, I am not happy. He elbowed me. He caught me with the elbow. It [the head movement] was not intentional. I was trying to come back.”
“How can I headbutt someone? I would not. He was the person they wanted to win. He was the winner before.I knew if I did not get knockout I could not win the fight.”
