2026 Commonwealth Games: Zinabu Issah wins Ghana’s first medal with shot put silver

Ghana’s para athlete Zinabu Issah has won the country’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, claiming silver in the women’s Shot Put F57 final.

Issah recorded a season-best throw of 8.65 metres to finish second and secure Team Ghana’s first podium finish in Glasgow.

The 31-year-old continues to establish herself as one of Ghana’s leading para athletes. At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, she reached the women’s Shot Put F57 final with a qualifying throw of 8.67m before recording 8.84m to finish ninth overall. She also competed in the women’s Discus F57, placing 12th with a best throw of 23.85m.

Issah’s silver medal is a major boost for Team Ghana, with more athletes still to compete in athletics, boxing and swimming during the remainder of the Games.
