Black Stars defender Marvin Senaya is set for a spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for a hamstring injury sustained during Ghana’s Round of 32 clash against Colombia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The injury was confirmed by the team’s medical staff following an MRI scan conducted in Kansas City, which revealed significant damage to the hamstring. Immediate treatment was administered to manage the acute phase of the injury.

Senaya has since undergone a successful surgical procedure in Paris and has returned to his club, AJ Auxerre, where he will continue his rehabilitation. The Ghana Football Association says it is working closely with the French club to ensure a smooth and effective recovery process.
The defender is expected to be out for a minimum of eight weeks.
The France-based defender featured in all four of Ghana’s matches at the tournament before picking up the injury during the game against Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium on Friday, July 3, 2026.
