Premier League champions Medeama SC will host their 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Preliminary Round matches at the Tarkwa and Aboso (TnA) Stadium after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) granted the venue Category 2 Stadium Approval.

The landmark decision means continental club football will be played in Tarkwa for the first time, allowing the Mauve and Yellow to enjoy home support in their quest for a place in the group stages of Africa’s premier club competition.

CAF’s approval followed a comprehensive inspection of the facility, which confirmed that the TnA Stadium meets the required standards to host CAF Youth and Women’s National Team qualifiers as well as Preliminary Round fixtures in CAF interclub competitions.

The certification is a significant boost for Medeama, who will now have the opportunity to play their opening Champions League ties on home soil instead of relocating to another venue.

Although each fixture remains subject to CAF’s final confirmation in line with competition regulations, the Category 2 approval clears the way for the club to stage its preliminary matches in Tarkwa.

The achievement represents a historic milestone not only for Medeama but also for the Western Region, bringing elite African club football to the mining town for the first time.

The approval follows the combined efforts of the Ghana Football Association, Medeama SC, stadium management and other stakeholders, who worked together to upgrade the facility to meet CAF’s latest stadium requirements.

Beyond benefiting Medeama’s continental campaign, the certification also reflects Ghana’s continued investment in football infrastructure and its growing capacity to host CAF competitions.

With home advantage now secured, Medeama will look to capitalise on the backing of their supporters as they begin another journey in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
