Ghana’s Evonne Britton has booked her place in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after running a season’s best 12.78 seconds in Thursday’s heats in Glasgow.

Britton finished fourth in the opening heat, which was won by Nigeria’s world champion Tobi Amusan in a commanding 12.19 seconds. Her time was enough to secure one of the fastest qualifying spots for the final.

Evonne Britton will now return to the track later on Thursday, where she will once again face Amusan, the overwhelming favourite for gold and the fastest qualifier from the heats.

Britton’s qualification continues what has been an encouraging season. In May, she reached the final of the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, finishing fourth in 13.08 seconds after progressing through a highly competitive field.

The former University of Arkansas athlete has steadily improved throughout the year, and her 12.78s run in Glasgow is another sign of the progress she has made on the international stage.

Standing between Britton and a place on the podium is Amusan, the reigning world champion and world record holder, who looked comfortable as she cruised into the final with the quickest time of the morning.

Britton will be hoping to build on her season’s best performance as she chases what would be a historic Commonwealth Games medal for Ghana in the women’s 100m hurdles.
