Team Ghana’s athletics campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games continues on Thursday, July 30, with several athletes chasing places in medal events as competition intensifies in Glasgow.

The day’s action begins with the men’s 110kg weightlifting final, where Abdul Salim Adjei will aim to win Ghana’s second medal of the Games after para athlete Zinabu Issah claimed silver in the women’s Shot Put F57.

On the track, Evonne Britton will compete in Heat 1 of the women’s 100m hurdles, hoping to book a place in the final later in the day.

Attention will then shift to the men’s 200m semi-finals, where Ghana will have three athletes in action following an impressive opening round.

James Dadzie

James Dadzie lines up in Heat 1 after winning his first round race. Joseph Paul Amoah, who also topped his heat in 20.36 seconds, will compete in Heat 2, while Mustapha Bokpin runs in Heat 3 after progressing automatically.

A place in the final would keep Ghana’s hopes of a sprint medal alive. Should Britton qualify from the heats, she will return for the women’s 100m hurdles final in the evening session.

Wednesday ended with mixed fortunes for Team Ghana. Baba Mohammed missed out on the men’s 400m hurdles semi-finals after finishing sixth in Heat 1.

Hayford Addai

Para sprinter Hayford Addai also narrowly missed a medal in the men’s 100m T47 final. He clocked a personal best of 10.99 seconds to finish fifth, producing one of the strongest performances of his career.
