Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah has confirmed his departure from AJ Auxerre after four years, fueling speculation that he is close to joining German side FC Köln.
In a farewell message on social media, the Ghana international described it as an honour to represent the club and thanked everyone who was part of his journey.

“After four unforgettable years, the time has come to say goodbye. Leaving this club with a heart filled with gratitude. Wearing this jersey has been a real honor, and I have always given my all for this emblem.”
The 27-year-old thanked his teammates, coaches, staff and supporters of AJ Auxerre for helping him grow both as a player and as a person. He also paid tribute to the fans for their unwavering support.
“As I embark on a new chapter, I leave with nothing but respect, appreciation and love for this club. It’ll always have a special place in my heart.”
Mensah also thanked AJ Auxerre for “four incredible years” and added, “This is not goodbye, but see you soon.”

His departure comes amid reports linking him with a move to FC Köln after an impressive campaign with the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Neither Mensah nor FC Köln has confirmed the transfer.
