Government raises Commonwealth Games gold medal bonus to US$10,000

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has increased the medal bonus package for Team Ghana ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with gold medallists set to receive US$10,000.

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams announced the new incentive scheme at a meeting with Team Ghana in Glasgow, under which silver medallists will receive US$3,000 and bronze medallists US$2,000.

Adams said the increase is intended to motivate Ghanaian athletes to deliver strong performances in Glasgow. He also pledged a personal bonus of US$1,000 to every Ghanaian athlete who wins a gold medal.

The ministry said the revised package reflects the government’s commitment to rewarding excellence and improving athlete welfare, while encouraging more podium finishes.

Kofi Adams urged Team Ghana to compete with discipline, determination and national pride, assuring athletes, coaches and officials of the government’s full support throughout the Games.
