Black Queens defender Josephine Bonsu says she is happy that Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup remain alive.
Bonsu scored the winning goal from the penalty spot as Ghana beat Côte d’Ivoire 2–1 to advance to the intercontinental play-offs after missing out on automatic qualification.
Speaking after the game, Bonsu urged Ghanaians to remain hopeful despite the difficult qualification route ahead. She believes the Black Queens can still secure a place at the World Cup if they maintain their focus and determination.
“This was a needed game [win] but it wasn’t easy at all. As you can see, we didn’t start strong at all….but I’m really impressed because at half time we had to be 70% better and we did it and I’m really happy we got the win.”
“I address the Ghanaian fans to please hold back [on the criticisms], it kind of affects some players what they are saying so don’t give up on us, we’ve got this.”
“We’re pretty sure that we can come back and we will qualify for the World Cup” she said.
