Cristiano Ronaldo has strongly indicated that the 2026/27 season could be his final campaign as a professional footballer.

The 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward revealed in an interview with Vogue that he expects to bring his playing career to an end when his current contract with the Saudi club expires in June 2027.

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.”

Ronaldo, who has spent more than two decades at the highest level, reflected on the sacrifices that have shaped his extraordinary career.

“Because after all it’s been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice.”

The Portugal captain has also indicated that the 2026 FIFA World Cup was his final appearance at the tournament, following Portugal’s exit against Spain in the last 16.

With his future beyond football already “all mapped out”, Ronaldo says he is looking forward to spending more time with his family, travelling and enjoying activities away from the game, including padel tennis.

Despite approaching the final stage of his career, Ronaldo still has one major individual milestone within reach.

He currently has 976 official senior career goals, leaving him just 24 goals short of 1,000.

If he maintains his scoring form and stays fit throughout the 2026/27 season, Ronaldo could have the opportunity to reach the historic milestone before potentially calling time on a remarkable 25-year professional career.
