UEFA Super Cup: “We hope for a good result with the players we have”- Aston Villa Manager

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery says he is hoping for a good result in the 2026 UEFA Super Cup game despite having a depleted squad for the tie.

He said this at a presser before UEFA Europa League winners Villa take on UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, August 12 at the Red Bull Slazburg Arena in Austria at 19:00 GMT.

PSG head coach Luis Enrique has stated that fans shouldn’t expect a top level game due to scheduling reasons that has meant that a handful of players will miss the game after making deep runs with their countries at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Addressing the media ahead of the game, Unai Emery sounded a similar tone by highlighting the absentees in his squad.

“We do not have some players ⁠because ​they finished their season late. They’re resting, which is very necessary.”

“We will start with the players we have and we hope to get ​a good result with the capacity that we have” he said.
