The Gambia assistant coach Abdul Jammeh says his side have been hit harder by injuries and absences than Ghana ahead of Tuesday, September 29, 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Jammeh says five key Gambian players unavailable for the game have scored a combined 24 goals for the national team in recent months.
Speaking at Monday’s pre-match press conference, he compared the two teams’ absences and insisted The Gambia have lost more influential players.
“We have missed five players who have scored 24 goals for us over the past few months. Our absentees are more important than the Black Stars players who are missing,” Jammeh said.
The Gambia opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Somalia, while Ghana lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire and will be looking to respond at home. Despite the absences, Jammeh believes The Gambia have enough quality in the squad to compete with Ghana.
Ghana has a growing list of players unavailable to Carlos Queiroz ahead of Tuesday, September 29, match, including Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, Baba Rahman and Prince Kwabena Adu.
