The Black Stars were met by a low turnout at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, with large sections of the stands empty before kick-off and still largely unoccupied 25 minutes into their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia.
The limited attendance has created a subdued atmosphere around the Group C fixture, despite Ghana’s need for a positive result after losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening qualifier.
The low turnout comes a day after Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz urged supporters to back the players available for the game rather than focus on those who were absent.
“It’s better to stay home if you’re coming to the stadium to complain about players that are not here instead of supporting those that are here,” Queiroz said ahead of the match.
Ghana are without several key players, including Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo and Nathaniel Adjei, while Alexander Djiku was ruled out after picking up an injury in the defeat to Côte d’Ivoire.
Queiroz had hoped the home crowd would provide the support needed to help the Black Stars respond, but significant empty sections remain visible as the game enters its 25th minute. The Black Stars are seeking their first points of the qualifying campaign against The Gambia.
