Members of the Accra Turf Club are renewing calls for the Accra Race Course land to be returned and restored, following its alleged takeover and demolition.
The club says the destruction and alleged forceful occupation of the land have affected several stakeholders in the horse racing community.
The latest protest was held on Tuesday, September 22, as members stepped up their campaign for the land to be restored.
The Accra Race Course was allegedly demolished following a forceful takeover, an incident that led to the arrest of three persons, including a police officer.
The Accra Turf Club has already submitted petitions to the Office of President John Mahama, the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. The club is now renewing its call for action from the relevant authorities.

“How are we going to pay the fees of our wards, how are we going to cater for our horses, how are we going to house them because our land has been unlawfully demolished” Samuel Acheampong, a representative of the Jockey’s Association said.

“We are appealing to the government to come to our aid…prosecute every individual involved [in the demolition of the Accra Race Course]”- Mutala Alhassan, treasurer of the Horse Racing Association said.
