Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has criticised his side’s performance after they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brentford in the Premier League.
Igor Thiago broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute before Fabio Carvalho added a second in stoppage time to seal Brentford’s win at the G-Tech Stadium.
The defeat is Chelsea’s second under Alonso, who took charge this offseason. The Blues previously lost 2-1 to reigning champions Arsenal. Speaking after the match, Alonso urged his players to stay alert and maintain their intensity throughout games.
“I’m disappointed at the end with the second half and the result.”
“This is not enough to compete in the Premier League, not to be able to go for the 90 minutes. This is why today we were punished.”
“We are not being consistent enough to compete during the whole game – 45 [minutes] is not enough, you need to play the whole game knowing each detail is important and each action can be decisive” he said.
