World number three Carlos Alcaraz says watching Real Madrid can be frustrating at times and believes the team can perform better.
The Spanish tennis star, a lifelong Madrid fan, made the comments ahead of the 2026 Laver Cup, which runs from September 25 to 27 at the O2 Arena in London.
Alcaraz praised Real Madrid’s quality but called for greater intensity from the team, saying he believes they have the ability to perform at a higher level.
The 23-year-old will represent Team Europe at the Laver Cup as they take on Team World in the three-day tournament.
“Right now, I’m seeing other teams doing better. They are Real Madrid, great players, talented. As a team, they can do better. They have to work it out a little bit.”
“I’m suffering right now watching the games because you never know what’s going to happen. I would say a little bit more intensity (is needed)” Alcaraz said.
Alcaraz returned from a wrist injury to compete in the US Open where he exited at the quarterfinal stage following a loss to Ben Shelton.
