Asamoah Gyan has urged the Black Princesses to use their latest FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup disappointment as motivation to return stronger.
Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland came to an end at the group stage after the Black Princesses suffered a 4-0 defeat to France in their final Group C fixture.
The result left Charles Sampson’s side bottom of the group with three points, having opened the tournament with a 3-0 defeat to Ecuador before responding impressively with a 3-1 victory over South Korea.
The win over the Koreans had revived Ghana’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage, but the Black Princesses were unable to build on that result against France, suffering another painful early exit from the competition.

Speaking after Ghana’s elimination, Gyan called on the young players to accept the disappointment and see the setback as an opportunity to challenge themselves.
“What I will tell you is whatever that has happened, we should take it in good faith and let’s move on in life. That’s how you challenge yourself.
“When things go wrong, that’s when you challenge yourself.”
The former Black Stars captain encouraged the players to maintain belief in themselves despite failing to achieve their objective in Poland.“I can assure you that nobody knows tomorrow, so have faith in yourself. I know the future is bright.
“But we didn’t get the result we wanted. We are out, but not done.”
Ghana travelled to Poland with the ambition of making history by progressing beyond the group stage, with coach Charles Sampson publicly identifying qualification for the knockout stage as the team’s main objective before the tournament.

The Black Princesses had also qualified for the World Cup after edging Uganda 3-2 on aggregate in the final round of the African qualifiers, earning Ghana another appearance on the global stage.
While the dream of a prolonged stay in Poland has ended, Gyan believes the focus must now shift towards learning from the experience and preparing to come back stronger.
“From here, we think about how we are going to come back stronger. So don’t worry.”
The challenge now is to turn another painful setback into the motivation needed to build a stronger generation for the future.
