Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has described his team’s performance as “soft” after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City at Stamford Bridge in Premier League Week 4.

Chelsea made a bright start, with Morgan Rogers finishing a sweeping move at the near post to give the hosts the lead in the seventh minute.

However, Mohamed Belloumi scored twice in the first half to put Hull ahead before Joao Pedro equalised in the 66th minute.

Both of Belloumi’s goals came after poor defensive play from Chelsea, leaving Alonso unhappy with his team’s performance.

Speaking to the BBC after the game, Alonso criticised Chelsea’s defending and described the overall display as “soft.”

“We’re disapointed with the result. We wanted to win. We have to be disappointed with some parts of the performance especially when we had the lead. We were too soft for the equaliser. We can do much better.”

“Not happy. We can do better. We got what we deserved. We need to be more solid and be more controlled. New players and new staff. This is the process. In a few months I’m sure we’ll be able to control better” Alonso said.

The result leaves Chelsea with two wins, a draw and a defeat after four league matches, while Hull remain unbeaten with two wins and two draws.
