Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has pointed to the huge impact Lisandro Martinez’s dismissal had in the Red Devils’ game against Chelsea.
Carrick said this to the BBC after Man United suffered a 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the English Premier League.
Morgan Rogers scored the opening goal in the 50th minute but 13 minutes later, Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez elbowed Wesley Fofana in the penalty box.
The incident attracted a second yellow card that led to Martinez’s exit from the game and Cole Palmer scoring Chelsea’s second goal to seal the win for Xabi Alonso’s team.
In a post-game interview, Carrick bemoaned his team’s wastefulness in front of goal and Martinez’s dismissal.

“It-Lisandro Martinez’s red card- has a major importance on the game. A huge moment. I think that is pretty obvious really” Carrick said.

After getting criticised for his tactics in Man United’s 4-1 UEFA Champions League loss to FC Como, Carrick praised Bruno Fernandes’ performance against Chelsea.

“I was happy with the team first half, especially individually in it. The discipline, the role, the quality of the football were all there”.
