The GFA has terminated the contract of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, following Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The decision comes less than 48 hours after the Black Stars suffered a shocking 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving Ghana bottom of Group C without a point after two matches.
Queiroz had earlier insisted he would not resign following the defeat, but the GFA board has opted for a technical restructuring after consecutive qualifying losses to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
Queiroz’s record with Ghana
The Portuguese tactician’s departure brings an end to a short spell that included Ghana’s participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the opening matches of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
During his tenure, Queiroz managed seven matches, recording one win, two draws and four defeats
His major achievement was guiding Ghana to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Black Stars were eliminated following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
However, the team’s failure to secure a point from its opening two AFCON qualifying matches ultimately proved decisive.
Search for successor begins
The GFA is now expected to begin the search for a permanent replacement as Ghana attempts to revive its qualification campaign ahead of the next international window.
The decision marks another coaching change for the Black Stars, with the federation facing mounting pressure to restore stability and improve the team’s performances following the recent setbacks.
