Carlos Queiroz has confirmed that he and the Ghana Football Association have mutually agreed to terminate his contract as head coach of the Black Stars.
The Portuguese coach announced the decision in a statement on Thursday, October 1, after discussions with the GFA, saying both sides agreed that ending their relationship was the most appropriate course of action under the circumstances.
Queiroz said the decision was difficult, but that the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars and Ghanaian football had to come first.

His departure follows a poor start to Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, with the Black Stars losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire and 4-2 to The Gambia.
Queiroz acknowledged that the results contributed to the decision, while also saying “the necessary conditions were not fully established” for his work with the national team.

“It has been an honour to serve Ghana and the Black Stars,” he said, thanking the GFA and its president for giving him the opportunity.
He also thanked his technical staff and the players, and urged Ghanaians to continue supporting the team.
“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” Queiroz said.
“The talent and potential are there. With unity, support and the right environment, this generation can achieve great things for Ghana.”
Queiroz took charge of the Black Stars in April 2026, initially tasked with overseeing the team’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup before the start of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. He was reappointed in September 2 to continue his role as head coach of the Black Stars.

His departure leaves the GFA with the task of appointing a new head coach as Ghana looks to revive its AFCON qualifying campaign.
