Como produced a remarkable performance in France, thrashing Lens 9-1 to equal the record for most goals scored by a team in a single UEFA Champions League match.
The Italian side matched Bayern Munich’s achievement against Dinamo Zagreb in 2024, continuing an impressive debut European campaign under head coach Cesc Fàbregas.
The result followed victories over RB Leipzig and Manchester United, with Como’s only setback in that run coming against Feyenoord. The emphatic win lifted them to fourth in the league-phase standings.
Tasos Douvikas opened the scoring with a close-range finish before adding a second to put Como firmly in control. Tenerife-born Nico Paz then made it 3-0, celebrating with a tribute to Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, who died after suffering a serious injury in an on-field collision.
Como showed no signs of slowing down after the break, with captain Lucas da Cunha scoring their fourth less than two minutes into the second half.
Marc-Oliver Kempf headed in the fifth in the 53rd minute before Paz set up Douvikas to complete his hat-trick.
Substitute Mattia Liberali made it seven in the 62nd minute, running through on goal before finishing from close range.

Lens managed a consolation through Ruben Aguilar, who volleyed home from a corner, but Como continued their attacking onslaught.
Martin Baturina restored the seven-goal advantage with Como’s eighth, before 18-year-old Matteo Papaccioli completed the rout in stoppage time.
Papaccioli’s effort was initially ruled out for offside, but a VAR review confirmed that he had timed his run correctly, allowing the goal to stand.
The nine-goal haul puts Como alongside Bayern Munich in the Champions League record books. However, Feyenoord retain the record for the biggest victory in European Cup history, having beaten Icelandic side KR Reykjavik 12-2 in September 1969.
Como also registered the biggest away win in Champions League history with their emphatic victory over Lens.
