Kobena Woyome urges Government to complete New Edubiase stadium

Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee for Sports and Culture, Kobena Woyome, has urged the NPP government to complete the construction of the New Edubiase Stadium.

The project was started by the NDC in 2016, but has seen no further works since then after they lost election.

The Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, announced in June 2019 that funds had been secured for the re-design and completion of the project but no progress has been made yet.

And Woyome has lamented the current state of the facility.

“It would have been so beautiful for us to see a continuation of the project from where NDC left off by the government of the day.” He said in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports.

“By now, if it is not even completed, we should have seen an appreciable improvement from where the contractor got to before we left office.

“Unfortunately, nothing happened, nobody wanted to continue the project and that is the very reason why John Mahama, per the need and interactions, indicate that the project is very dear to the people of that area and so there is the need for it to be completed.” He concluded.

Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama in his manisfesto launch last month has promised to complete the project which has been stalled due to financial constraints, as well as upgrade the Winneba Sports College into a world class facility if he is voted into power in the upcoming 2020 elections in December.
