Former Sunderland player, Asamoah Gyan, has revealed how the famous term “ewo le monkor” was coined.

The term has been one of the terms associated with him, and it has been immortalized in his music.

Known for his jovial lifestyle, Asamoah Gyan has over the years been a ringleader at the Black Stars camp, leading various jama sessions as he also scores goals.

It is his lifestyle in the camp that has made him a much-loved figure in Ghana and around the world.

“This “ewo le monkor” thing started from Stephen Appiah. He was eating shrimps, and the Ga name for shrimps is “monkor”. So anytime he took a bite of the shrimps, he will say “ewo monkor” which means the shrimps are nice and so I also tasted it and I noticed that the shrimps are nice, and I exclaimed “kwerh ewo monkor” and then Langabell, added the “le” then it became “ewo le monkor” and subsequently became my term. It then transcended into a lot of things so anytime you see anything nice, you can go like “ewo le monkor,” Asamoah Gyan revealed at his book launch on April 30, 2022.
