Prioritize state interest- Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi tells Ghana football leadership

Vice Chairperson of the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee of Ghana’s Parliament, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has called on Ghana football leaders to avoid putting personal interests ahead of the nation’s interest in the management of football affairs.

The Ghana Football Association has come under scrutiny in recent months as a result of unimpressive performances by Ghana’s national teams in recent tournaments, with a group stage exit at the on-going U-23 African Cup of Nations as the most recent disappointment.

Speaking to Citi Sports in an exclusive interview, Boakye Antwi expressed worry over what he has observed since he assumed his role on the Parliamentary Committee.

“I think the leadership from what I have heard or the little intel I have gathered, is that the leadership is in competition with the teams. They get coaches that will do their bidding from what I have been hearing.
So the coaches will to hold on to their jobs by playing their players. I hope that’s not the truth. If that’s the case we are in trouble; I’m expecting some sort of rebuttal from the GFA” he said.

“I didn’t go to the AFCON; I think that’s when I assumed vice chairmanship of the committee so I wasn’t in Cameroon but from what I’ve seen the self-interest supersedes national interest” he added.
