Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Committee Member, Frederick Acheampong, has won the Parliamentary Candidate race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ahafo Ano South East Constituency.

The long tenured football administrator beat four contenders in the race according to provisional results gathered by Citi Sports at the time of writing.

The sports journalist won the candidate race by polling 164 ballots out of a total of 440 ballots cast.

John Wesley Owusu Boateng, Emmanuel Osei-Boateng, Obeng Boateng and Roy Gyeabour Antwi polled 82, 76, 88 and 29 ballots respectively.

The win means Acheampong is in the run to be voted into Ghana’s Parliament on December 7 later this year during the West African country’s Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

This marks a major entry into mainstream politics for Acheampong who has served in multiple roles in sports including his time as Chief Executive Officer of Ashanti Gold Sporting Club.

He was voted into power as a GFA Executive Council member in the 2023 GFA Elections and serves on the Black Meteors (Ghana’s National Men’s Under 23 Football Team) Management Committee.
