Black Stars captain, Thomas Partey, has called on Vice President of Ghana and New Patriotic Party Flag bearer in the 2024 Ghana Elections, Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia, to help provide a better football stadium for the Black Stars to play good football.
He said this in his address delivered at a meeting between members of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team and the Vice President when Dr. Bawumia visited the team ahead of a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic (CAR). (Click highlighted text to read full story)
The matchup against CAR kicks off at 19:00 GMT tonight at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on the back of Ghana’s huge 2-1 win over Mali in Bamako.
After thanking Dr. Bawumia for taking time off his schedule to visit the team, the Arsenal player made the call for a better playing surface.
“We want to say thank you for coming we really appreciate it… I have one request from all the players, we asking for a good stadium because we want to play better football so we need a better stadium and also for us to perform better. It’s the only time we can see you for now so I need to say it.”
Partey’s comment drew a huge round of applause from technical and playing members of the Black Stars.

The Baba Yara Stadium pitch has come under heavy criticism in recent years over its choppy and hard surface.
