Paris 2024: Abdul-Rasheed Saminu qualifies to semifinals after finishing third in Men’s 100 Metres Heat

Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu has qualified to compete in the Men’s 100 Metre Race semifinals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Saminu finished in third place in Heat Five with a time of 10.06 seconds. The University of South Florida product finished behind Kayinsola Ajayi of Nigeria’s 10.02 seconds and Marcel Jacobs of Italy’s 10.05 seconds.

Saminu and Ajayi embraced after the race with both men’s places in the next round confirmed. They went into the heat with times of 10.02 and 10.00 seconds respectively.

Jacobs is the defending Olympic 100 Metre Champion and has dealt with a fair number of injuries in recent years.

By finishing in the top three spots, Saminu books an automatic spot in the next stage of the competition. By making it into the semifinals, Ghana will have both representatives in the event featuring in the second round.

Benjamin Azamati finished second in Heat One with a time of 10.08 seconds behind the world’s fastest man this year, Kishane Thompson who run a time of 10.00 seconds to win the race. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Azamati and Saminu are part of Ghana’s Men’s 4×100 Metre Relay Team that will compete on August 8.
