Anthony Martial has signed for Greek side AEK Athens. The forward has joined on a free transfer following his Manchester United exit this summer.

His contract at Old Trafford expired, ending his nine year association with the club.

The 28-year-old is set to arrive in Greece tonight.

Martial is in line to earn £2.5million per season with AEK and the deal would have been announced on Monday night if not for a delay, as per SPORT24.

That will put him among the highest earners in the club’s history.

Ex-Tottenham star Erik Lamela, who joined the club over the summer, is reported to be the top earner on €2.5m (£2.1m) per season.

But Martial is expected to surpass that figure to make him the club’s best paid player.

He will also play with ex-Watford stars Roberto Pereyra and Nordin Amrabat and former Brentford goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.

Anthony Martial Stats

Once the world’s most expensive teenager when he signed for the Red Devils from Monaco for £36m in 2015, Martial’s form dropped off after his 17 goals in 2019/20.

He netted just twice in 19 appearances in his final season with Man United.

He’s suffered a number of injury woes, too, but will now be hoping to kick start his career.
