Veronica Commey warns of Black Queens’ regression after Nora Hauptle’s Exit

Experienced sports journalist Veronica Commey has expressed doubts about the progress of the Black Queens in the foreseeable future following Nora Hauptle’s move to the Copper Queens of Zambia.

With just six months remaining before the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in July 2025, the GFA is yet to name Hauptle’s successor.

The Black Queens are set to compete against Zambia’s Copper Queens and 16 other nations at the tournament.

However, Commey fears the team’s future could take an uncertain turn in the absence of a clear direction.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Football Made in Ghana on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Sports Analyst Veronica Commey shared her concerns about the future of Ghana’s senior women’s national team.

In her discussion with host Bennard Abeiku Okyere, she highlighted the challenges facing the team, especially with the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations fast approaching.

The team was progressing in terms of quality.

So if I have to reminisce, it was the only time I have seen the Black Queens close to what it used to be.

And it’s a crying shame that we have to lose Nora.

Not because we didn’t want to continue, or she didn’t want to continue, but because we couldn’t find a common ground.

I have seen that the last few weeks, she had been posting here and there, obviously disappointed in the kind of preparation we’re given the team.

The fact that we are not playing enough friendly games, any coach with his thoughts will definitely be disappointed.

But I would have hoped that we maintain him, because obviously with a kind of job that he had executed with the Black Queens, it was telling you didn’t need anyone to whisper into your ears that she will have a lot of suitors because she had built a team that was beginning to look like the Black Queens are first qualified for the World Cup before the Black Stars did in terms of the category of the nature of the teams.
