Chief Executive Officer of Hasaacas Ladies, Evelyn Nsiah Asare, has revealed that the club continues to face challenges following their participation in the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2021.
The team had a remarkable run during the tournament, going unbeaten in the group stages.
They defeated Malabo Kings in their opening match, secured a 3-0 win against AS Mande in their second game, and drew 2-2 with Wadi Degla to secure a place in the final.
However, they ultimately fell short, losing to Mamelodi Sundowns in the championship match.
In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Nsiah Asare reflected on the struggles that have followed since the team’s historic performance.
“It hasn’t been bad, but we see Hasaacas Ladies from a different perspective. If we are not getting the expected results, then we say it hasn’t been well,” she said.
She attributed some of the difficulties to the mass departure of players after the 2021 tournament.
“Ever since we returned from Africa in the Champions League in 2021, about 14 to 15 players have left. It has not been easy replacing them,” Nsiah Asare noted.
She further explained that the team’s earlier success was the result of years of careful planning.
“It was a project; we kept them for about four years. After that performance, we haven’t had that same crop of players again. Now, we are putting together players from Division One.”
Despite the challenges, Nsiah Asare remains optimistic about the future.
“This is another project we’re embarking on, and we believe that in the next year or two, Hasaacas Ladies will bounce back.”
Currently, Hasaacas Ladies are second in the Southern Zone of the Women’s Premier League with 18 points after nine matches. In their most recent game, they played out a goalless draw against Jonina Football Academy Ladies at the Auntie Aku Santa Maria Astro Turf.
Hasaacas Ladies are set to face Berry Ladies at the Madina Astro Turf in their Week 10 fixture as they aim to strengthen their title charge.
