No Brand Wants to Be Associated with Hooliganism– Former Kotoko Captain

Former Asante Kotoko captain, Isaac Amoako, has stressed that no corporate entity would want to invest in a football brand tainted by hooliganism and violence.

His remarks come in the wake of the tragic events at Nana Koramansah Park during the matchday 19 clash between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko, which led to the heartbreaking loss of a devoted Kotoko supporter.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Amoako urged Ghanaian football stakeholders to take inspiration from modern football standards and implement measures to curb violence in the sport.

On behalf of the GFA President and Executive Council, ExCo member Frederick Acheampong, alongside Ashanti RFA Vice Chairman Isaac Adu Agasper, visited the family of the late Asante Kotoko supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong (aka Pooley), at Asawase, Kumasi.

” No one enjoys investing in a product that brings this kind of thing, hooliganism. Nobody wants to associate himself with those kinds of behaviours. As Ghaianans, and a football country, we should learn from certain things, we have come of age and those things should stop.”

“What happened yesterday, started from the players and generated into the supporters which brought the sudden death of this young supporter.”

The former shot-stopper’s comments echo growing concerns about fan safety and the long-term impact of such incidents on Ghanaian football’s reputation and commercial appeal.

The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has, with immediate effect, invoked Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations, banning Nsoatreman FC’s home venue until further notice.

This decisive action is aimed at ensuring the safety of all stakeholders while thorough investigations into the tragic incident at Nana Koramansah Park continue.

Additionally, the GFA has formally engaged the Ghana Police Service to conduct a full-scale investigation, with a firm commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice.
