In the wake of the hooliganism incident that marred the Matchday 19 fixture of the Ghana Premier League game between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC, law enforcement authorities have intensified their investigations, leading to two new arrests.

Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), John Ansah, has commended the police for their dedication to ensuring justice is served.

Speaking on the latest developments, he expressed his confidence in the ongoing investigation, highlighting the active role of the police in pursuing all suspects linked to the fatal incident that led to the death of a popular Kotoko fan by name Yaw Frimpong who is widely known as “Pooley”.

“With the police service, I have seen total commitment, led by the Chief of Police himself. I have seen a lot of assurances because I am fortunate to be working with her directly, and the few things I have been unhappy about, she has addressed them.

There is an encouragement because two other suspects have been arrested, and I am happy about these arrests because they are still pursuing some other suspects, who will be brought to book. So, I am confident with the police,”

The arrests come in the aftermath of a crucial meeting between the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and representatives from Asante Kotoko.

The high-level discussions focused on strategies to curb rising hooliganism in Ghanaian football and ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans at league matches.

The tragic events of Matchday 19 have reignited conversations about stadium security and fan conduct, with calls for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

As the investigation continues, the football fraternity remains hopeful that those responsible for the violence will face justice, reinforcing the need for discipline and decorum in the game.
