The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has extended its warm congratulations to Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, who officially assumes office today, February 10, 2025, as the first-ever Minister for Sports and Recreation following a name change by President John Dramani Mahama.
His appointment, which was approved by Parliament and followed by his swearing-in by President John Mahama, reflects his vast governance and managerial experience.
SWAG acknowledged this milestone adding that they look forward to his leadership in transforming Ghanaian sports.
During his vetting before the Appointments Committee, Mr. Kofi Adams assured the nation of his commitment to holistic sports development, emphasizing that his focus will not be solely on football but on all sporting disciplines. As Minister, Mr. Kofi Adams will be faced with critical issues, including:
- Improving sports infrastructure nationwide
- Enhancing athlete welfare and development programs
- Ensuring transparency and accountability in sports governance
According to SWAG, they are particularly encouraged by Adams’ emphasis on promoting lesser-known sporting disciplines, an area that has long needed attention despite Ghana’s vast pool of talent.
