CitiSports can confirm that Sports Journalist Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has been appointed as the new Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).

A household name in Ghanaian sports media, Ankrah brings a wealth of expertise to the role.

Renowned for his work as a television and radio presenter, as well as his leadership as President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association and Chairman of the Beach Soccer Committee, he has been a vocal advocate for reform in Ghanaian sports.

His appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the NSA, which has grappled with challenges such as crumbling infrastructure, funding shortages, and the need for modernized management.

In recent years, the NSA has faced intense scrutiny over its handling of national stadia, with predecessors like Prof. Peter Twumasi and Dodzie Numekevor drawing heavy criticism for mismanagement.

In a corresponding move, Seth Panwum’s letter of appointment as Acting Director-General of the NSA has been terminated.

Ankrah is expected to collaborate closely with Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams to tackle these issues and elevate Ghana’s standing in regional and international competitions.

His appointment has been widely welcomed, succeeding a line of leaders tasked with steering the NSA through turbulent times.

With a proven track record of driving the growth of beach soccer in Ghana and delivering sharp critiques of football governance—most notably calling for accountability following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations—Ankrah is poised to bring fresh energy to the role.
