Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, is tight-lipped about the amount of money spent on Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars.

While addressing the media after visiting the Black Stars’ first training session in the lead up to Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Sports Minister failed to specifically mention the exact amount of money that has been allocated to take care of the team’s expenses.

“The budget for Black Stars? We will support whatever we have to do. The President (John Dramani Mahama) is supporting us to be able to take care of the things that must be taken care of so that’s the update” he said.

However, his response seemingly contrasts with the words of President Mahama in his first State of the Nation address to the Ninth Parliament in Ghana’s Fourth Republic where he stated that,

“There will be no secrecy in how much the government spends on the national teams. The budgets presented by the GFA (Ghana Football Association) and other sports associations must be known by the public.” (Click highlighted text to read full story)

In a related development, the GFA responded to President Mahama’s statement by indicating that all Black Stars expenditure sits with the Sports Ministry and not the football body. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

In recent years, expenditure on the Black Stars has generated huge debate with many arguing that too much money is spent on the national football team. Scroll down to watch excerpts of Black Stars first training session ahead of Chad encounter.
