Ghana’s former Black Queens coach, Nora Häuptle, now leading Zambia, recorded her first win at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as the Copper Queens staged a thrilling 3-2 comeback against Senegal at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Skipper Barbra Banda led the charge with a brilliant brace to keep the Copper Queens’ quarterfinal hopes alive at Stade El Bachir

Senegal opened the scoring in the 5th minute through Nguenar Ndiaye, who punished a goalkeeping error by Musole Ngambo.

But Zambia responded quickly, with Banda converting a well-placed pass from Racheal Kundananji just seven minutes later.

Zambia dominated possession for much of the first half but couldn’t take the lead, and a yellow card for Grace Chanda means she’ll miss their final group match against DR Congo.

The second half saw Zambia seize control. Kundananji put them ahead in the 51st minute with a calm finish, and Banda struck again in the 73rd, reacting sharply in the box to make it 3-1. Senegal narrowed the gap from the spot in the 80th minute, but Zambia held firm through 10 minutes of added time.
