Belgian international and Manchester City winger, Jeremy Baffour Doku, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, during his off-season stay in Ghana.

The purpose of the visit was to reaffirm his Ghanaian heritage and outline his intentions to support charitable and sporting initiatives locally.

Accompanied by his father, Mr. Davies Doku, and other family members, the 23-year-old expressed his deep appreciation for the unwavering support he has received from Ghanaians throughout his career.

“I cannot shine unless people put me on,” Doku remarked. “I’m proud of my Ghanaian roots, I speak Twi, and I intend to come back more often to give back.”

Hon. Adams warmly welcomed the Doku family, hailing Jeremy as a global ambassador for Ghanaian excellence.

“Ghana may not field you in our national jersey, but every time you step on the pitch, Ghana is mentioned,” he said. “Your humility and discipline make you a powerful role model for our youth. The Ministry is ready to support any initiative you wish to pursue here.”

The Minister also reflected on Ghana’s talent identification gaps, acknowledging the need to strengthen local scouting systems.

“Sometimes we blame ourselves for not discovering such talent early enough,” he admitted. “Your success story challenges us to invest more in nurturing the potential right here at home.”

Lady Dentaa, who led the delegation, revealed that Doku had already made quiet visits to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Achimota Hospital, where he supported patients and staff.

She added that the player is committed to expanding his philanthropic efforts across Ghana during future off-seasons.

The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and an invitation for Doku to attend upcoming youth football clinics organised by the Ministry.

Both sides expressed optimism that this collaboration would inspire Ghana’s next generation of athletes and strengthen the bridge between Ghanaian diaspora athletes and the local sports community.
