Tottenham Hotspurs winger Mathys Tel has responded for the first time since getting racially abused after the 2025 UEFA Super Cup that had Spurs lose on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain.

Spurs took a 2-0 lead in the game thanks to goals from Cristian Romero and Micky Van De Ven but two goals in the last 10 minutes of the contest forced the game into a penalty shootout that had PSG triumph.

Tel missed his penalty kick attempt and the France Under-21 player was then subjected to racist abuse on social media for the missed kick.

Posting on his Instagram page, Tel showed off a strong resolve in the face of the controversy that Spurs have officially condemned.

“Everyone, after the last few days have passed, I wanted to thank you all for your messages of support. Racism has no place in our society.”

“Every day is a learning curve and every day is a lesson. I know where I come from, where I started, and none of this will bring me down. With work and humility, respect reigns. Thank you all” he wrote on social media.

Tel replaced Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus in the 85th minute in Spurs’ 3-0 win over Burnley in its EPL season opener.
