Ghana’s representatives in the 100 Metre Men’s event at the 2025 World Athletics Championships have been handed tough tests to commence their campaign in Tokyo, Japan. The first of seven heats is scheduled to start at 11:05 AM today.

Saminu, who set a new national record of 9.84 seconds earlier this year, has been placed in Heat 7 alongside South Africa’s Akani Simbine and Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala.

Omanyala holds the African record of 9.77 seconds while Simbine won silver in the Men’s 4×100 Metre Relays at the 2024 Olympic Games.

On the other hand, Ghana’s former national record holder Benjamin Azamati will run in Heat 5 alongside Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and multiple time Olympic and World Champion Andre De Grasse of Canada.

Tebogo, who recently made the headlines after getting his image imprinted on the Botswana P50 bank note, won silver in the 100 Metres at the 2023 World Championships held in Budapest. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
