Olympic 200 Metre Champion Julian Alfred has pulled out of the 2025 World Athletics Championships due to injury.
The 2024 Paris Games Champion aggravated a hamstring issue that bothered her in the lead up to the competition in Tokyo, Japan while competing in the Women’s 100 Metre Final.
Alfred finished third in the Women’s 100 Metre Final with a time of 10.84 seconds to win the bronze medal. America’s Melissa Jefferson-Wooden won gold in a time of 10.61 seconds and Jamaica’s Tina Clayton won silver in a time of 10.76 seconds.
The St. Lucia sprinter apparently picked up a grade one hamstring injury in the final and won’t be available to compete in the 200 metres event where she holds a world leading time of 21.71 seconds.
Her absence leaves Shericka Jackson as the odds-on favourite to win gold; the Jamaican won gold in the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Jackson finished fourth in the Women’s 100 Metre final in a time of 10.88 seconds.
