President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has congratulated the University for Development Studies (UDS) for winning the World University Games Football competition and labelled the institution’s win as one that embodies his government’s Reset Agenda.
He made these comments while delivering his speech when the UDS team presented the world title to him in the presence of high profile personalities including the Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.
UDS beat Paulista University from Brazil 2-1 in the final to win the competition that took place in Dalian in China in September. UDS is the first African institution to win the title and President Mahama praised the team stating,
“From Tamale to the world stage, this perfectly embodies the spirit of the Reset Agenda; Ghana rising through discipline, opportunity and excellence. So let me once again congratulate…the UDS community and all who supported the team on this journey.”

President Mahama went on to present 500,000 Ghana Cedis to the team for winning the title.
