Black Stars and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has revealed that Bayern Munich legend Manuel Neuer greatly influenced his own style and game during his development phase.
The 33 year old shot stopper has been in the headlines following Ghana’s qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
After making his debut against Chad, he has gone on to keep five clean sheets in six matches played, a feat which has helped him ascend to become Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper.
His seamless communication with the Ghana backline has been a highlight of his time in post and he attributes these to watching tapes of the German and Bayern veteran goalkeeper.
Neuer has always been the goalkeeper that I look up to right from my early days when I was developing my craft.
The way he kicks, communicates and generally how he conducts himself within the box is what I wanted to emulate.,” he stated after Ghana beat Comoros.
