Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho could do nothing but look on as his team got smacked by Newcastle United at the intimidating St. James’ Park in the UEFA Champions League.

The Portuguese side lost 3-0 to Newcastle with English wingers Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes leading the charge with brilliant performances, goals and assists in the win.

Barnes came off the bench to score twice in the 70th minute and 83rd minute with his first goal getting an assist from goalkeeper Nick Pope whose 65 yard throw set up the English winger for the goal and Newcastle boss Eddie Howe talked about the quality in his team after the game.

“I am really pleased. Benfica are a very good team so we had to show our quality. We had chances and we didn’t score early but we kept at it.”

“We are full of good players, we haven’t quite clicked into gear yet but hopefully this is the start of what we can be” Howe said to TNT Sports.
