Team Ghana on Tuesday, December 9, departed Accra for Luanda ahead of the 2025 Africa Youth Games, where a 70-member contingent is expected to represent the nation across 15 sporting disciplines.
The squad, made up of athletes aged between 14 and 17, is set to compete against the continent’s finest young talents from December 10–20, 2025.
President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr. Richard Akpokavie, described the mission to Luanda as a product of strong collaboration between the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the GOC. He noted that Ghana’s priority is to offer young athletes the best opportunities for international exposure.

“Our shared goal is to provide our talented youth with the best opportunities for international exposure and growth. We are investing in their future by sending a fully supported team ready to compete at the highest level,” he said.
The GOC also commended the Sports Ministry and the Government of Ghana for their unified commitment to sports development, which has ensured full backing for the country’s participation.
Chef de Mission Kamal Sulley will lead Team Ghana, which will compete in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Fencing, Golf, Judo, Karate, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, and Weightlifting.

The GOC believes the wide spread of disciplines enhances the country’s prospects of securing medals at the continental showpiece.
The Africa Youth Games, organised by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), serves as a crucial development platform for emerging athletes and a pathway to major competitions, including the Youth Olympic Games.
The GOC is urging the public to rally behind the young contingent as they bid to lift Ghana’s flag high in Angola.
