She said this at the launch of the 2026 edition of the competition on Monday, March 2 after a three year hiatus. This year’s APL Open runs from March 3 to March 8.

The competition has 43 female tennis players competing and one of the organizers of the tournament, Naa Shika Adu, said this year’s edition also serves as preparation for the Billie Jean Cup. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

On her part, Deladem Tamson, who is a tennis chair umpire, said she hoped the tournament stuck around by stating that,

“This initiative has been timely…I really do hope that this initiative comes to stay and the girls are inspired. We have a full set of 32 (players) here who are going to play this tournament.”

“If each of these players should keep up (playing for) say the next five to 10 years, that’s 32 players from Ghana and so the future of tennis is very bright” she said.
