Former Black Queens Management Committee member and current Women’s Football Committee Chairperson Rosalind Amoh says she is not surprised by the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, although she admits the decision is disappointing.
The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will now be played from July 25 to August 16, 2026, after the tournament was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Amoh said there had already been speculation earlier in the year that the tournament could face challenges.

She explained that rumours emerged around January suggesting that hosts Morocco were reluctant to stage the women’s tournament, even though CAF later dismissed those claims.
“It comes as no surprise even though it is disappointing,” she said. “There were speculations earlier in the year about Morocco’s readiness to host the competition, but CAF moved to debunk those claims at the time.

Amoh added that major tournaments normally follow strict timelines and readiness indicators, including venue preparations and logistical planning, making the postponement unexpected.
She further noted that the decision could have wide-ranging consequences for participating nations.
“The implications are huge because these tournaments are structured within everyone’s football calendar,” she said. “Once the competition is rescheduled, it affects the timelines and preparations of all the teams involved.”
The WAFCON 2026 has been rescheduled to take place from 25th July to 16th August
