The Ghana Education Service has officially lifted the ban on inter-school sports activities in the Central Region, paving the way for the resumption of competitions across second-cycle institutions.

In a directive dated March 24, 2026, and signed by the Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Juliette Dufie Otami, the decision follows approval from the Director-General of the GES after a period of suspension.

The ban was initially imposed due to reported incidents of violence, clashes, and misconduct among students during inter-school competitions.

Authorities indicated that the measure was necessary to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the general public, while restoring discipline and order within the school sports system.

Following extensive consultations with key stakeholders, the GES has developed a set of guidelines to regulate and guide the organisation of school sports in the region.

These measures are aimed at strengthening supervision, enhancing safety standards, and preventing a recurrence of the incidents that led to the suspension.

According to the statement, inter-school athletics competitions are set to officially resume from March 31, 2026, with strict adherence to the newly approved protocols.

Heads of Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools have been directed to familiarise themselves with the guidelines and ensure full compliance, with the GES warning that any breach will attract appropriate administrative sanctions.

The Central Regional Directorate further assured its commitment to working closely with stakeholders to ensure that school sports are conducted in a safe, disciplined, and orderly manner.
