President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has reiterated the body’s commitment to abide by any ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), insisting African football will remain strong regardless of the outcome.

Motsepe made the remarks during a working visit to Morocco on April 9, 2026, following a decision by CAF’s Appeals Board to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)  title, a ruling that has since been challenged at CAS.

CAF visit to Morocco

“I am clear in my mind that whatever decision CAS takes, we are going to implement it”, he said.

The CAF president acknowledged the seriousness of the case but said the continent’s football structures are resilient enough to withstand any potential fallout.

“Our responsibility is to ensure stability and protect the integrity of the game on the continent. “I have looked at everything, including even what the worst-case scenario, and I firmly believe African football will be fine,” he added.

Patrice Motsepe maintains that his duty as CAF president is to protect the interests of the 54 nations on the African continent and to protect the integrity of the game of football.

Senegal’s decision to seek redress at CAS has drawn significant attention across the football world, with the final ruling expected to have far-reaching implications.

However, CAF maintains that regardless of the verdict, the long-term progress and credibility of African football will remain intact.
